Two Cups in a Row

Two cups
In a row
Will not
His mind blow
For with caffeine
He knows
The seeds of inspiration
It sows
And thoughts within
Grow

If we infer that the 'cups' referred to in the verse are a metaphor for life - playing on the clichéd phrase of 'cup half full/empty' - then the author is is presenting the audience with a picture of modern day existence.  The 'Caffeine,' mentioned in the piece - which we can interpret as being the very essence of life - holds the ability to destroy (having negative dark connotations of suicide and self-destruction in the use of the lexis 'blow') and thus the poet is conveying the a sense of human fragility in which human existence teeters on the brink of being and ceasing to be. Or it could just be about coffee.

Starbucks

In Starbucks he sits
Feeling sip by sip
The nagging sensation
Of capitalist domination
Which lines his mug
And makes others feel smug
As he sits in Starbucks

Missing Milk

Missing milk
Is quite the shame
When man returns
His tired frame
To recuperate his mind
Only to melancholy find
His milk has gone
Been all but used
And instead of his milky brew
A black coffee
Will have to do

The author's relationship with milk is such that it could be inferred that the lack milk mirrors the writer's mind: both having been ravished by modern society's routines.

Break The Fast

Man sits down
To coffee drink
And denies sleep
As he rests on the brink
But what, does not
The cup contain
From which
He never can refrain
The ineptitude of his consumption
Burdens his mind
Like life's resumption

Clearly, man's dependence on caffeine is a an undying aspect of his existence. The only question which remains, is whether his consumption is a necessary trait of his lifestyle, or a malignant parasite of his being; consuming his financial assets without his full moral consent.

Tent

Man lies in tent
A real bed he laments
As the wind sweeps about
Nature does shout
But the tent stays up steady
Until he is ready
To get up for coffee
And a shower to boot
If only he could
Muster effort to
Stand up

Notice how the 'man' is the immediete focus of attention, but the reader's attention is quickly diverted towards the subject matter 'nature'. The presence of nature can be seen as a destructive and obstructive in the man's quest to 'shower' and obtain 'coffee'. However, the man is simultaneously dependent on nature for providing a medium for the tent pegs to be pegged into. Thus a love-hate relationship develops between man and nature. If you like.

Coffee #1

Coffee brewed
Coffee stewed
Till morning
Till noon
Till evening
Till Moon
Never does the time
Not fit the beverage
And never does the
Beverage
Fit ill
The time
For coffee, is
Nigh

Amply demonstrated by the repetion of the concept of the beverage 'coffee', contrasted against various times of day, is the relationship between the writer and the beverage. Coffee.

Another Cup

Another cup
Is never enough
Half full
Won't fill the cup
Half empty
And one feels
Out of luck
Will the liquid?
Within the vessel
Ever be enough
To appetite
Embezzle

Lucidly demonstrated within the confines of this verse, is  the greed of the tea drinker; the corrupted mindset of the caffeine addict, 'embezzled' by the effects of the drug. From this, appears to stem the unfathomable avarice of man, whom never accepts the cup is full. Or have I just been drinking too many hot beverages?..

Sleep

Another day, another masterpiece.

He'd like to
Sleep
Comes
Home, a
Heap
A hot cuppa
Joe?
Oh
I think so

Yep, that's a take.
