Custard Cream Sonnet

Custard Creams start out a dream
Crunch and munch that sugar lunch
Crisp sweet wheat meets oh-so-creamy
Centred filling: truly dreamy
At half a pack, it's time to stop
But try as he might, his jaw won't lock
Closed for second, opting instead
To consume yet more biscuits
Against the will of his head.
Crumb after crumb, his taste buds numb
Until he's eaten every one.
But at what cost? 35p seems no great loss...
But look in his eyes and lo and behold
The sugar hangover's taken hold.

Cider and Beer

Cider and beer
Was a bad idea
Or so it seems
To his brain unclean
From the discomfort of
A hangover bad
Perhaps cider and beer
Is not a worthwhile fad

Mid-Lecture Hangover

During the lecture
His general conjecture
Decreases in standard
As, by-and-by
His head starts to fry
His brain starts to die
Contracting in size
Until, he can no longer hide
His hangover

We can deduce from a reading of this verse, that the author has a hangover.

Hungover

Man awakes to chicken in brain
Laying filthy eggs of pain
He'll drink
He'll pop
Take painkillers galore
But all the while
The pain he'll deplore

We can infer from the lexis 'deplore' that the author of such a verse feels strongly about subject matter of 'pain'. Meanwhile, the 'chicken' within the work, must surely be symbolic for Western civilisation's obsession with consumerism: the eggs of pain being the products of a consumeristic and capitalist culture.

Hung

Hung
Over
Not sober
When will the
Poison Cease
Before it devours
The man

The concept behind this verse is clear: man has a dangerous relationship with intoxicants - one that presents itself at intervals few and (relatively) far between, but nevertheless is capable of devouring all life and actions from the individual for a short period of time. Puke.
